Living small is a fairly recent trend in the minds of most people, but Ron Corl and his wife (and 2 cats) have been living in this hand-built micro home since 2007. I came across Ron’s pictures of the home on Custom Made, where he lists his handcrafted creations for sale – mostly luxury furniture items – and had to share it because it’s such a fun example of a small footprint home you can build yourself or have built by a talented builder like Ron at a fairly low cost.
The home is 450 square feet with every piece of wood custom crafted by Ron. He says most of the materials for the home were recycled or were auction finds that were a fraction of the cost of buying new.
Take a look inside and you can see how every inch of the house is filled with quirky, fun little elements that make it look like something out of a fairytale. Building your home yourself definitely gives you the creative freedom to really make the space your own. From the retro decor to the fanciful staircase and wood work, this little house has personality stamped all over it.
There is no drywall in this home; instead, Ron finished the walls with hand-shaped pieces of walnut, cherry, and ash, adding to the unique and beautiful interior and providing a gorgeous backdrop to the furnishings in each room.
Ron states that in a house this size, “you learn quickly what you really need to live well”. Ron is now offering his services in helping others obtain their micro house dreams. You can commission him to build one for you or to send you a kit that you can put together yourself. He is even considering doing some micro home building workshops.
